Steps To Take If You Have Severe Allergy Symptoms

Health & Medical Blog

Many people suffer from seasonal allergies, which can cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as sneezing, a runny nose, a scratchy throat, and itchy, watery eyes. Some people have mild seasonal allergies, while others can suffer from quite severe seasonal allergies. If you have seasonal allergies, it is important to take the proper steps to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible and don't have to live day to day with severe allergy symptoms. Take the following steps to help get your seasonal allergies under control:

See an Allergist

An allergist is a type of physician who specializes in treating patients with allergies or asthma. When you're suffering from severe allergy symptoms, your first step should be to schedule an appointment with a facility that offers allergy care services. An allergist will do an exam and may run several tests to determine exactly what you are allergic to. In some cases, a person can have seasonal allergies associated with dust and pollen, while also having other allergies that they may have been unaware of. After an allergist determines exactly what you are allergic to, he or she will be able to prescribe a treatment plan.

Eliminate Allergens from Your Home

When you have severe allergies, it is important to make your home a place where you can find relief. This can be accomplished by being extra diligent and eliminating allergens from your home. Make sure that you vacuum your home frequently to remove dust from the carpeting. Sweeping should also be done often if you have hard floors. Also make sure to change your air filters on a regular basis-- the last thing you want is for dust or pollen to blow through your air vents. If dust is a problem, it is a good idea to make sure that your furniture and blinds are dusted frequently.

Limit Your Exposure to Allergens

If you are allergic to dogs, it is easy enough to avoid them. But, when dust or pollen are causing your severe allergy symptoms, limiting exposure can be a little more challenging, but there are things that you can do. One simple step is to avoid leaving the windows in your home open, even if you have screens on the windows. You should also make sure to always drive with your windows rolled up. Pay attention to the weather, and do your best to spend as much time inside as possible when high pollen counts are reported.

introducing your daughter to the gynecologist

Having a daughter comes with a number of challenges. One challenge that you will one day need to tackle is determining when to introduce your daughter to the gynecologist. Do you take your daughter to the same gynecologist that you see or take her somewhere else? Do you wait until she gets her first period or do you take her in to learn about the menstrual cycle from the doctor? There is a long list of questions you likely have about introducing your daughter to the world of gynecology. Having gone through this twice myself, I have learned quite a bit and have included a lot of helpful information in my site to help other parents get through this complicated time a little easier.
