4 Ways To Take Care Of Your Smile

Dentist Blog

Maintaining a beautiful smile is essential. A great smile will help you to feel more confident when you communicate with others. In order to maintain your smile, you need to keep your teeth as healthy and stain free as possible. There are a few simple things you can do that will keep your teeth healthy and looking their best.

Eat The Right Foods

While there are some foods that will increase the amount of stain on your teeth, there are others that will assist you in maintaining a bright smile. Make sure you brush your teeth thoroughly after eating or drinking foods and beverages such as blueberries, coffee or tea. After brushing, you should munch on foods such as carrots, apples, pears or celery, since these foods help to trigger the production of saliva, which helps to remineralize and brighten teeth.

Pay Attention To Your Tongue

Be sure to give your tongue a good scrub every time you brush your teeth, to prevent the over production of bacteria that can harm teeth. In order to make the process easier and more thorough, you should use a tongue scraper or purchase a toothbrush with a tongue cleaner on one side.

Fight Stains With Baking Soda

If you love to drink red wine, tea, or coffee, you run a greater risk of getting stains on your teeth. However, you don't have to give up these foods completely if you are proactive about reducing and removing stains. One way in which you can do this is to use baking soda to brush your teeth at least twice per month. Using baking soda to remove stains is easy. All you have to do is use it as you would use your toothpaste and then rinse out your mouth.

Brighten Teeth With Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is great for removing stains from your teeth. You can use it as a mouthwash by mixing two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with about a quarter cup of water and using it as you would use your ordinary mouthwash. However, apple cider vinegar is an acid and while it removes stains over time, if it is allowed to stay on the teeth for too long, it will do more harm than good to the enamel. In order to avoid this, you will need to brush with your regular toothpaste right after using the apple cider vinegar treatment, since this will help to remove the apple cider vinegar from your teeth.
