5 Tips To Get Through Breast Cancer Treatment

Health & Medical Blog

If you have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, it is important to begin treatment as soon as possible. The sooner you undergo treatment, the better chance you have of recovery. However, breast cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation, can make you experience unpleasant side effects. Here are a few tips to feel better during breast cancer treatment.

Treat Menopause Symptoms

Breast cancer treatments can cause menopause symptoms in some women. These symptoms include hot flashes, vaginal pain, headaches, fatigue, and anxiety. If you are experiencing menopause symptoms while going through breast cancer treatment, you should talk to your doctor about your options. For instance, if you are having difficulty falling asleep due to night sweats, your doctor may suggest avoiding caffeine at night or taking an over-the-counter sleeping pill.

Eat Smaller Meals

Breast cancer treatments can cause nausea, which may affect your appetite. Since you need a nutritious diet to help your body heal, try eating smaller meals throughout the day. Your body may be able to digest them better. Try to avoid very spicy or fatty foods, as they can be hard on your stomach.

Take It Easy

When you are going through breast cancer treatment, you may also get tired very easily. That is why you should conserve as much energy as you can. If you feel tired during the day, do not hesitate to take a nap. Also, do not be afraid to ask others to help you with various tasks.

Get Some Exercise

Breast cancer treatments often cause fatigue, so exercise might be the last thing on your mind. However, doing some light activity may actually help increase your energy levels. Try going for a short walk or doing yoga. You may be thrilled at how much better you feel afterward.

Increase Your Fiber Intake

Another unpleasant side effect of breast cancer treatment is constipation. If you are unable to go to the bathroom for days, you might experience bloating and stomach pain. Good sources of fiber include beans, fruits, vegetables, brown rice, and bran cereal. If you can't get adequate fiber from food, you may consider taking a fiber supplement.

Breast cancer treatment is not always pleasant. However, if you follow these helpful tips, you can get through your breast cancer treatment a little easier. If you have additional questions about your breast cancer treatment, do not hesitate to reach out to your cancer doctor promptly.
